Early summer is in full swing, and youth marches towards the light. On the afternoon of 27 May, the Grand Theatre at the Nanxun Campus of Zhejiang University of Water Resources and Electric power was abuzz with youthful energy and resounding applause. The ‘The Taste of Truth in the New Era – Tracing Origins, Forging Spirit, Nurturing New Generations’ and ‘Youth at the Forefront’ ideological and political micro-lectures, alongside the 2026 Student Commendation Ceremony, were held as scheduled.
All members of the university leadership, representatives from alumni-funded enterprises, heads of units belonging to the Student Affairs Committee, principal Party and administrative officials from each secondary college, and representatives of staff and students gathered at the venue to celebrate the spirit of youth and pay tribute to the power of role models.
The ceremony was organised into four sections: ‘Self-Reliance’, ‘Pragmatism’, ‘Virtue’ and ‘Truth-Seeking’, and recognised over 100 outstanding individuals and representatives of exemplary groups.University leaders, including Qian Tianguo, Secretary of the University Party Committee, and Wan Jian, President, presented awards to student representatives who had won the National Scholarship, the Pan Jiazheng Electric power Scholarship, the ‘Top Ten University Students’ award, the title of ‘Self-Reliance Star’ among Chinese university students, and the title of ‘Integrity Ambassador’ for national higher education institutions over the past year, as well as to student representatives who had achieved outstanding results in various high-level science and technology competitions, innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives, and arts and sports competitions.
During the event, representatives from both staff and students delivered short ideological and political lectures on themes such as rural practice, ethnic unity, personal growth and endeavour, and public service; their words were forceful and inspiring.
The ceremony drew to a close with the University Students’ Art Troupe performing the song ‘I Fly Over on the Wind’.
