On the morning of 22 May, the Nelson Marlborough School of Intelligent Engineering convened a review meeting for the 2026–2029 talent development programme at the Qiantang Campus. Jun Wan, Director of the Academic Affairs Office; Yuntao Zhang, Dean of the School of Intelligent Engineering;Yiman Fang, Deputy Dean; and heads of various academic programmes attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Zhang Yuntao.

Yuntao Zhang emphasised the need to ground the programme in the practical realities of the China-New Zealand joint venture, coordinate the strengths of both parties’ curricula, and optimise curriculum articulation, credit allocation and practical teaching components. This would result in a talent development programme that is more forward-looking, rational and practical, thereby effectively enhancing the quality of the China-New Zealand joint venture and the effectiveness of student development.

The meeting centred on the three programmes—Internet of Things Engineering, Digital Media Technology and Civil Engineering—and discussions focused on graduation requirements, the curriculum framework and the alignment of Chinese and New Zealand courses. Particular emphasis was placed on the implementation of the Ministry of Education’s ‘four one-thirds’ requirement and the course requirements for the conferral of degrees by both the Chinese and New Zealand parties.

Jun Wan provided an interpretation and explanation of the guiding principles for the revised talent development programme and put forward suggestions for its adjustment. He also emphasised that the talent development programme is the core instrument of Sino-foreign cooperative education; it must not only comply with the Ministry of Education’s regulations but also be grounded in industry development trends, further clarifying educational objectives and optimising the curriculum system to ensure that Sino-foreign cooperative education programmes are delivered with distinctive characteristics and competitive advantages.

This revision adheres to the principle of ‘giving equal weight to internationalisation and local needs’. Moving forward, the College will, building on the refined talent development programme, further liaise with the partner institution in Singapore, strengthen communication, promote the implementation of the programme, and continuously enhance the quality of Sino-foreign cooperative education and the standard of student development.
